Not all AI tools are created equal. After testing dozens across my teams, here are the categories that actually move the needle — and the ones that are just noise.
Conversation intelligence is the highest-ROI category I've found. Tools that record, transcribe, and analyze sales calls give you visibility into what's actually happening in your pipeline — not what reps report in CRM. The gap between the two is often shocking.
AI-powered lead scoring is the second category worth investing in. When your CRM can tell you which leads are most likely to convert based on behavioral signals, your team stops wasting time on cold prospects and focuses energy where it matters.
Pipeline forecasting with AI is the third. Traditional forecasting relies on rep intuition, which is notoriously optimistic. AI-driven forecasting uses historical patterns and deal signals to give you a more honest view of what will actually close.
What I'd skip: AI-generated cold outreach at scale. It's become so common that buyers are numb to it. The volume play is dead. Personalization — real personalization, not mail-merge — is what breaks through.
The principle I apply when evaluating any AI tool: does this make my team more human, or less? The tools that win are the ones that free up time for genuine connection. The ones that lose are the ones that try to replace it.
