Building something massive is easy. Building something massive that actually performs is rare.
I've scaled sales teams to over 1,000 members across different industries. The conventional wisdom says bigger teams mean more coordination chaos, higher attrition, and compromised quality. But I've seen the opposite happen when you get three things right.
First, you need scalable playbooks. Document what works, systematize it, and train relentlessly. Second, you need good managers at every level who genuinely care about their people. A 1,000-person team isn't built by one leader—it's built by dozens of great managers.
Third, you need to measure what matters: not just output, but quality, retention, and culture health. Most teams measure volume alone, which creates unsustainable burnout cultures.
The real insight? Bigger doesn't have to mean worse. It just means you need better systems, better people leaders, and clearer values.
